Qualifications:
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

Satisfactory Criminal Record Search.
Satisfactory Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check.
Ability to travel.
A valid Class 5 Manitoba Driver's licence and access to a personal vehicle.
Ability to work flexible hours.
ESSENTIAL
Post secondary education in social sciences with directly related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
Knowledge of Aboriginal culture, history and justice issues.
Ability to work in a culturally sensitive manner.
Experience with case management, for either youth or adults.
Effective interpersonal skills.
Effective verbal communication skills.
Effective written communication skills.
Experience working independently.
Ability to work in a team environment.
Computer experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) or equivalent applications.
DESIRED
Experience in community networking.
Assessment skills and effective intervention planning in a social services setting.
Ability to speak an Aboriginal language.
Duties:
The Probation Officer, as part of the Westman Regional Team, provides: an alternative to court action, alternatives to incarceration, assistance in reintegrating offenders into the community, and develops opportunities for community involvement in community corrections and crime prevention. The Probation Officer manages offenders with the appropriate degree of control, supervision and support and by providing appropriate programs, services and encouragement to assist offenders to deal with those issues which brought them into conflict with the law. The Probation Officer participates as a team member in the planning, implementation and evaluation of all the services delivered by the unit and contributes to the program initiatives by strategy development, support of justice committees and honorary Probation Officer functional assignments.
